RMA sent, and Googlisms 03.28.2006

So the RMA number got emailed to me (see last post), I'm sure glad they had my email address. FedExed it on Monday, should be hearing from them… well soon I hope.
Still not too much to blog about, more a lack of motivation to type out my thoughts than a lack of thoughts or stories. Perhaps when school starts up again, I'll have more free bored time.
In the mean time, you can keep yourself amused with Googlisms. Taking a few of them in order from my page I came up with:
sam is dead. sam is back. sam is pissed. sam is trying to kill you. sam is here to stay.
Sounds like I'm back from the dead for a little revenge.
Tech Support Nightmare 03.21.2006

Nothing like crappy tech support to bring back the blog…
So I order a Link Depot Corp enclosure for a new DVD drive. Shows up nice and fast (thanks NewEgg) and I set it up. Plug it up to the comp… nothing. Check the hardware, the drive is listed as . I unplug it and the computer crashes. I tried this again without the DVD drive, so it’s definately the enclosure.
Can’t find a manufacturer anywhere on the box, finally find it listed on NewEgg’s site (thanks again NewEgg). I give them a call:
LD: “thaucalindeot”
Me: “Yes, hi, I recently purchased one of your drives, and it’s not working…”
LD: “You want to talk to tech support?”
Me: “Yes, sure” (Of course!)
…
LD: “He’s not at his desk, you try in like 10 min, or should I leave him a message?”
Me: (HIM!? There’s only one!?) “Um, I’ll call back in 10 min”
(10 min later)
LD: “hyooyindeo”
Me: (WHAT!?) “Hi, can I talk to tech support?”
LD: “diytatemor?”
Me: “Excuse me?”
LD: “di yu tat em befor”
Me: “Yes, well, I called before and he wasn’t at his desk”
LD: “Hold on”
…
LD: “He’s not as his desk, you call back in 15 min?”
Me: “Sure…”
(15 min later)
LD: “taucalideo”
Me: “Hi, can I talk to tech support?”
LD: (hint of recognition in her voice, I’m pretty sure there’s only two secretaries and I talked to both of them) “Yes, one moment”
LDTS: “Hello, “
Me: I explain the situation.
LDTS: “Hmm, never heard of something like this before, maybe it’s defective”
Me: (Ya think so?) “Mmmhmm”
LDTS: “What you need to do is go to the website, and fill out an RMA form to fax to us…”
Me: (at website) “What’s an xls file?”
LDTS: “Uhhh… excell…”
Me: “Oh… I’ll have to figure out someway to open that then…”
LDTS: Explains that I fill it out, fax it to them, and then they’ll give me an RMA and email me to let me know the progress.
So I use someone else’s computer to open and print out the RMA form. There’s no line for the email address, so I guess in addition to being bad at tech support, they’re also psychic. I figured I’d help them out a bit and include my email off to the side. So I fill out the RMA and try to fax it to the number on the RMA sheet.
Fax: *doooooooo* … “do, Do, DO. We’re sorry the number you’ve dialed is no longer in service, if you feel you’ve reached this message…”
Me: (Grrr)
LD: “thayucalidohaelu”
Me: “What’s your fax number?”
LD: “Area code XXX…”
Me: “You might want to let someone know that the number on your forms is incorrect…”
LD: “…”
Me: “Never mind… area code XXX…”
So I get the number and fax it to them. I can’t wait to see what happens next…
In other news, sorry about the wanning of the blog lately, the quarter just ended so I should be around to post a bit more now. I’ll keep you informed of my adventures in Link Depot Land…
